HOW HARD IS IT TO KEEP A SECRET?
A secret is something that is kept or meant to be kept in private. Sometimes a secret is hard to keep especially if it is an interesting sceret and you might want to share that secret with a friend but not anyone else. To avoid the secret from leaking out, the person must be trustworthy and promise not to let the cat out of the bag. Once the cat is out of the bag, the secret is likely to spread because no one else promised to keep the secret except for your friend and your friend has no broken his or her promise. According to Benjamin Franklin, ‘Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead. ‘ This means that the secret will be kept safe if you keep it to yourself and not let others know.
Besides that, here is an example of keeping a secret effectively. This is about the Trojan war and how the Greek army kept their secret so well. The Greeks wanted to end the war so they came up with a final plan to destroy all the Trojans. Epeius built a giant hollow wooden horse, an animal that was sacred to the Trojans. It was filled with Geek warriors led by Odysseus white the rest of the army appeared to leave and the Trojan horse was accepted as a peace offering. The Trojans were overjoyed that after ten years of war, at last they won. The Trojans celebrated their victory that same night. When the Greeks emerged from the horse, the city was in a state of confusion. The Hellenes opened the gate to let their fellow soldiers in and every single person in the city was destroyed. The city itself was destroyed too.
They kept their secret well and they deserve their victory because they did not let even a word about the secret slip out of their mouths. They worked together as a team to keep the secret and succeeded. If you want to keep a secret with a friend, make sure both of you work together to keep the secret a secret and not let it slip out. Sometimes a secret can be a burden. I remember i felt a sense of relief when i told my brother a secret. It was about a surprise party my parents were planning for his eighth birthday. Just before the day of the surprise party, i was so excited that i told my brother about the party. My brother was overjoyed to hear that and i realised that i had just let the secret out! On the day of the surprise party, everyone was disappointed to find out that my brother knew the secret. They were angry at me and i felt that my reputation as a secret-keeper was destroyed. However, i must admit that i felt relieved to offload the secret.
Therefore, after my own personal experience, i would like to offer some advice about secrets. Please never expect anyone to keep a secret if you cannot keep one yourself…
